Engineer, diver and sailor Aleixo Belov, founder of the Belov Group, was sworn in as a member of the Academy of Letters and Arts of Salvador, occupying seat number 19, whose patron is the jurist, sociologist, philosopher, professor and lawyer Antônio Luiz Machado Neto. The ceremony, held in the Main Hall of the Geographical and Historical Institute of Bahia (IGHB), highlighted the publications made by Aleixo Belov throughout his years as a sailor, telling his stories in 10 books already published, in addition to ongoing projects, such as his autobiography.
In his speech, Aleixo Belov emphasized that during his travels he “always collected things that he considered important, such as works of art, sculptures, elements of local culture, and also had all the nautical charts, where I recorded the routes and places I had traveled. With that, I decided to found the Museu do Maritime, because I was afraid that everything would be lost, and thus leave a legacy for society.”
